MOWING

MOWING HINTS

Be a grass cycler. Returning clippings to the lawn recycles plant nutrients and builds organic content in the soil.

Mow frequently enough so that you don't remove more than 1/3 of the length of the grass blades. Frequent mowing thickens the lawn and reduces the lawn shock and disease incidence.

It is necessary to mow more frequently with a mulching mower than a conventional mower.

Raise your mowing height as temperatures increase. This will allow the plant to better cool itself, thus conserving water.

Never cut below 2 1/2 inches. Most grasses do best when kept between 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 inches. Zoysia should be kept around 1 1/2 inches throughout the growing season. Mowing at the proper height will help to minimize the weed invasion, especially in hot weather.

Sharpen the mower blade frequently, at least 2- 4 times each growing season. A clean cut heals more quickly; a ragged cut encourages disease.

Do not mulch up leaves with a mower. Use a rake or a blower to clear the lawn prior to mowing

GRASS CYCLING

Grass cycling returns nutrients to the soil

Clippings wont damage your lawn when you mow regularly and at the proper height.

Clippings don't cause thatch, which is actually a thick buildup of roots.

Grass cycling doesn't spread lawn diseases. Disease spores are present whether clippings are removed or not.

All mowers can grass cycle. Simply remove the your mowers collection bag. Many manufacturers have attachments or special designs that improve a mowers grass cycling performance

Keep your mower blade sharp and adjusted to the proper cutting height.

Cut when the grass is dry, and mow often enough that you never remove more than 1/3 of the lawn height each cutting.

You may have to mow every four days when your lawn is growing fast, But once every ten days may be sufficient when turf is growing slowly.
